During the evening hours of the fading light this lone bachelor elephant was found eating roots and branches. The elephants are often encountered while they are eating because of the huge quantity of nutrients they must eat to keep energized their 12,000LB bodies.  They like to wrap their trunks around small indefensable trees and pull them up to eat the roots. They do not retreat when someone drives up to watch, instead they remain calm or charge usually a mock charge! This elephant looked like he was "in musk." We found him in near Satara, Kruger Park, South Africa.
