Cheetahs are one of the more rare cats to find. They are usually solitary or live with one other. This watercolor shows the cheetah on a termite mound which is a characteristic way of the cheetah. They love to stand on hills and mounds to scan the plains and survey the opportunities and challenges they may have before them. I love cheetahs because of their traits but I have not painted many because of how rare they are to encounter. They're strength is in their speed, but they're not very strong to defend themselves. They prefer to avoid confrontation so often times when lion, leopards, or hyenas come near the cheetahs dinner, the cheetah will just let them have it. I guess they know that they are no match to intimidate them. The cheetahs don't have a growl or roar but more like a bark that they use to communicate to fellow cheetahs. This one is from the Okavango Delta in Botswanna.
